By multiplying the incandescent bulb’s wattage by four, you can replace it with a CFL. Thus, the light output of a 15W CFL, for instance, is about comparable to that of a 60W incandescent bulb.


Since they were initially released on the market in the 1980s, the cost of CFLs has decreased substantially. They are still slightly more expensive than incandescent bulbs. But after using them for a year or two, they pay for themselves.
